(OPENPRESS) May 28, 2009 -- The FDA has listed 14 Hydroxycut products in the recall and has reported 23 deaths as well as injuries to the liver and kidneys. The following products were recalled Hydroxycut Rapid Release Capsules, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Capsules, Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix), Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Liquid Shots, Hydroxycut Hardcore RTD’s (Ready To Drink), Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed, Hydroxycut 24, Hydroxycut Carb Control and Hydroxycut Natural.

Attorney David Ennis encourages all consumers who have used these products and currently are or have experienced side effects to consult their primary care physician and request blood work be done to evaluate their kidneys and liver. Further Ennis recommends that consumers locate any used or unused Hydroxycut products still in their possession in order for them to help prove usage and so the products can be tested by their attorneys and experts. Proof of usage will be critical to prevailing on any legal claim and will be the first line of defense by the defendants in these cases.

Ennis & Ennis, P.A. is calling on the new FDA chief Margaret Hamburg to look into whether dietary supplements should be approved by the FDA or require more stringent labels on these products. Although many supplement manufacturers voluntarily list the ingredients on packaging, they are not required to disclose the dosage or amounts of each ingredient that is in the supplement.

“This is just inexcusable,” Ennis said. “Many consumers assume that these supplements are all natural ingredients and they don't know how much they are ingesting and where the ingredients are coming from. We have seen tainted milk and dry wall from China. It will be interesting to see where these ingredients came from and if they are also tainted. This is the type of information Ennis & Ennis, P.A. will keep posted on www.the-hydroxycut-lawyer.com as the story unfolds.”
